Arizona State softball will open the 2013 season on Thursday at 7 p.m. against a New Mexico team coached by 2003 Sun Devil graduate Erica Beach. After starting her collegiate career as a First Team All-American, Beach went on to earn Academic All-America honors and being named to the Women’s College World Series All-Tournament Team her senior year.

Beach graduated with a bachelor of arts in broadcasting in May of 2003. A member of the ASU Sports Hall of Fame inductee class of 2012, she earned the honor on her first ballot of eligibility with a lengthy career to back up the nomination.

As a pitcher, Beach led the Sun Devils to the NCAA Tournament all four season, two WCWS showings and one of only six perfect games thrown in ASU softball history – which she did as a freshman.

While playing professionally in Europe for the Sparks Haarlem in The Netherlands, she led the club to a 2003 European Cup championship. Upon returning to the States, she played for the Arizona Heat in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) from 2004-05 and then from 2006-08 was with the New England Riptide of the NPF, which included a championship title.

Sun Devil Athletics will honor Erica Thursday on the field prior to the start of the game.
