Sun Devils Thinking Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and many Sun Devils are doing their part to bring awareness to the disease that affects so many around the world.
Last week men’s basketball head coach Herb Sendek participated in the Fashionably Pink Celebrity Fashion Show in Scottsdale. The event benefitted Susan G. Komen for the Cure Phoenix, and helped raise funds for breast cancer research and treatment with the support of celebrities and the Phoenix community. The ASU women’s soccer team hosts Cal Friday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. and will don pink uniforms for the first time. For senior midfielder Courtney Tinnin, the pink uniforms stand for much more, as she lost her mother to breast cancer in 2009. All fans are encouraged to wear pink to receive discounted admission ($5 adult, $3 youth/senior). The team will also raffle off the pink uniforms following the game.
On Sunday Oct. 14 several Sun Devil student-athletes will hand out water to runners in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
The Sun Devil volleyball team hosts Oregon State Oct. 19 at 8 p.m. for their Dig Pink Night. The team will wear pink jerseys and will auction them off following the game. Fans are also encouraged to wear pink to receive discounted admission ($3 tickets).
